OUR STORY

“If I can make a contribution to fashion, I want it to be through working with grassroots artisans, and through craft that feels relevant and inspiring today.”

Dhanya Sugathan

“Material sits at the centre of my design process. I begin with cloth and allow it to guide the silhouette, balancing structure and ease. Handwoven fabrics, developed with grassroots artisans, shape the way each piece comes to life.”

Dhanya Sugathan

“The human connection with the maker matters to me.
I’m interested in craft that continues
forward — shaped for life today.”

Origin & Objects began from a long relationship with clothing, materials, and making.

I have spent years working closely with fabrics, makers, and production — developing garments not as ideas on paper, but as objects shaped by cloth, process, and use. Over time, I found myself drawn less to trends, and more to how clothes live on the body: how they feel in warm weather, how they move through long days, and which pieces you return to again.

The brand grew slowly, from this place.

“I think about clothing in terms of real lives — workdays, travel, evenings that stretch, and the comfort of familiarity.”

Origin & Objects works with artisan clusters to develop handwoven fabrics in small batches, designing each garment in-house. The process begins with cloth and continues through pattern, fit, and finishing — allowing form to follow material.

The clothes are made for warm climates and everyday wear. They are designed to layer easily, to sit comfortably in a working wardrobe, and to remain relevant beyond a single season.

“Good clothing becomes part of your rhythm. You stop thinking about it, and start living in it.”

Designed in India and made in small runs using Indian handloom, each collection builds gradually — adding new forms while staying connected to what has come before.

Origin & Objects began not as a business plan, but as a long relationship with cloth.

Growing up in India, I was surrounded by textiles — their colour, texture, and presence woven into daily life. Over time, working closely with artisan families across the country, I came to understand the quiet intelligence of handwoven fabric: the patience it requires, the way it moves, and how it holds memory.

What stayed with me was a question.

Why had these extraordinary materials drifted away from modern wardrobes? Why were they reserved for occasions or nostalgia, rather than lived with every day?

Origin & Objects grew from this question.

The work begins with fabric. We develop small runs of handwoven textiles with artisan clusters, allowing the material to lead the design. Each piece is then shaped in-house through pattern making and fit, refined for ease, movement, and longevity.

I don’t think about the people who wear Origin & Objects in terms of demographics. I think about lives — workdays that stretch into evenings, travel that asks for comfort and polish, clothes that need to move and adapt without effort.

Our design language is modern tropical, shaped by warmth, light, and lived experience. It balances structure with softness and clarity with restraint. Not trend-driven, and never loud.

Like the craftspeople we work with, we value continuity as much as evolution. Each collection builds on what has come before, refining and moving forward without losing its grounding.

The aim is simple: to make good things.

Clothes that earn trust, and become part of how you live.

Origin & Objects is rooted in handcraft and guided by material honesty.

Made slowly. Worn often.

ABOUT ORIGIN & OBJECTS

Origin & Objects makes modern tropical clothing for everyday wear.

The brand grew from a long engagement with fabrics, makers, and production — and a desire to create clothes shaped by use rather than trends. Each garment is developed as an object: beginning with cloth, guided by material, and refined through fit and finish.

We work with artisan clusters to develop handwoven fabrics in small batches, designing and patterning each piece in-house. The process moves from loom to garment at a considered pace, allowing form to follow material.

The clothes are made for warm climates, long days, and repeated wear. They are designed to layer easily, to sit comfortably within a working wardrobe, and to remain relevant beyond a single season.

“Good clothing becomes part of your rhythm. You stop thinking about it, and start living in it.”

Designed in India and produced in small runs using Indian handloom, each collection builds gradually — adding new forms while staying connected to what came before.

Origin & Objects is an ongoing practice, shaped by time, use, and the people who wear the clothes.
